Information for Nervous Patients

At Spring Street Dental, we focus on helping calm the anxiety and nerves of our patients. We will strive to do everything we can to make your visit to our office as comfortable and calming as possible.

Nervous Patients, Cobourg Dentist

For patients who feel uneasy about their dental treatment, we offer a range of sedation options that can be administered in conjunction with almost all of our dental services.

Oral Sedation

A prescribed pill when you arrive for your appointment. Within a few minutes, you will start to feel calm and relaxed. The oral medication will cause you to be drowsy. We ask that you arrange for someone to drive you home afterwards.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) is a good option for patients who feel apprehensive about their dental appointment. Patients are safe to drive themselves home after this sedation option is administered since the effects of the gas are gone, after a few simple breaths of air.

IV Sedation

IV Sedation is often used for wisdom teeth extractions and root canals. This sedation option is also useful for patients with moderate to severe anxiety. We ask that you arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure.

General Anaesthesia: Safely administered by an M.D.

At Spring Street Dental, we work with a certified Anaesthetist to administer General Anaesthesia. An Anaesthetist is a medical specialist.

Your Anaesthetist is responsible for keeping you safe and comfortable during and after your operation. Under General Anaesthesia, patients are completely unaware of the details of their dental procedure.

Since patients are “under” when they have General Anaesthetic, this form of sedation is recommended for patients that require complex dental treatments or need to undergo a number of dental procedures at the same time.

General Anaesthetic for Children

General Anaesthesia is often used for children for extensive or more complicated procedures that will take a long time to complete, or when several procedures need to be completed at the same time.

Our Anaesthetist specializes in anaesthesia for children and will monitor your child to allow them to sleep soundly during their procedure.
